EGSA will be granting travel awards, as funds permit. The purpose of the awards is to encourage graduate students in the English Department to participate in activities that will aid them in their professional development.
Each submission should have clipped to it the application cover as well as any other specifics the awards call for.
Purpose and Applicability
EGSA Travel Awards facilitate professional development for English Department graduate students. The awards are intended to mitigate travel-related costs for professional development travel including but not limited to research and conference presentations. Students may apply for awards for travel for any professional development purpose; however, EGSA reserves the right to reject applications if EGSA deems those applications beyond the scope of these travel awards.
Description and Guidelines
Students may apply if travel occurred after July 1 of the previous year or will occur before June 30th of the current year. For example, applicants in February 2020 would be eligible if travel occurred between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020.
Please email applications to firstname.lastname@example.org or place them in the EGSA mailbox in Morrill 205.
Selection Process for the Scholarships
A selection committee of EGSA officers will choose submissions that qualify for the award. Guidelines for determining award winners include:
- Any application that is incomplete will be ineligible for funding that year.
- Applicants who have not received financial support from other sources (either within OSU or elsewhere) will be given priority consideration.
- International conference travel awards will be capped at 20% of the possible award total, out-of-state conference travel will be capped at 10% of the possible total, and in-state conference travel will be capped at 5%.
- Equity among the five programs within the English department will be taken into consideration when dividing award sums.
Should any EGSA officer apply for funding, they will recuse themselves from scholarship decision-making.
Although every effort will be made to provide the maximum award for every applicant, the amount of the award funding given will vary from year to year depending on the number of applicants and the amount available.
