Recent DEI-Related Achievements

The 2023 Southern Plains Arts, Humanities, and Languages Conference featured 20 presentations in the Race, Gender, Sexuality, and Equity strand as well as a keynote by Dr. Jack Halberstam.

Congratulations to the conference organizers (Sean Coolican, Rachel Klammer, Tiegan Willoughby, Komal Nazir, Salman Rafique, Steph Link) and to the English department members who presented as part of the Race, Gender, Sexuality, & Equity strand.

Dr. Reanae McNeal awarded a 2022-2023 OSU Center for the Humanities Research Group Fellowship in Medical/Health Humanities to develop a project on Re-Envisioning Community Engaged Healing for Black Women with fellows Marqua Harris (Health, Leisure and Human Performance) and Vanessa Oliphant (Psychology).

Dr. Timothy Murphy organized “An Evening with Nalo Hopkinson” for the first English Department Robert S. Clark Speaker Series in March 2023.

English major Maghin Brewer presented a poster “African American Speakers of Oklahoma English” at the OSU Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 18, 2023, about her research for the Language Studies Lab with faculty mentor Dr. Sara Loss.

Recent English PhD graduate Dr. Whitney Kerutis edited and published Cherry Moon: Emerging Voices from the Asian Diaspora, a special anthology issue of Gasher.

Dr. Elizabeth Grubgeld won the 2021 Robert Rhodes Prize from the American Conference for Irish Studies for Disability and Life Writing in Post-Independence Ireland (Palgrave Macmillan).
