Student membership

Student membership in the STC is open to graduate and undergraduate students who are enrolled in an accredited university, college, community college, or technical school; taking two courses or their equivalent each term; and preparing for a career in technical communication. Annual dues for student membership are $50. There is no enrollment fee for students. Student applications must be signed by a faculty member.

Classic membership

Classic memberships are available for anyone actively engaged in some aspect of technical communication or interested in the arts and sciences of technical communication or in allied fields. Cost of joining is $160 ($145.00 dues plus $15.00 enrollment fee). Annual dues for full membership are $145, and these dues include voting privileges, print versions of Intercom and Technical Communication and access to online versions. Membership also includes one chapter and one SIG.

Limited membership

Limited memberships are a "limited" version of the classic membership. Limited membership still includes voting privileges and versions of Intercom and Technical Communication, but this level does not include chapter or SIG membership. Cost of joining is $140 ($125.00 dues plus $15.00 enrollment fee). Annual dues for full membership are $125.

E-membership

E-memberships provides voting privileges, online versions of Intercom and Technical Communication and includes membership in one chapter and one SIG. Cost of joining is $150 ($135.00 dues plus $15.00 enrollment fee). Annual dues for full membership are $135.

Benefits of membership

Intercom—The Society's award-winning magazine, which provides practical examples and applications of technical communication. Intercom also includes Society news, columns edited by technical communication experts, and a calendar of industry-related events. Intercom is published ten times per year.

Technical Communication—The Society's award-winning journal, which publishes articles about the practical application of technical communication theory and serves as a common arena for discussion by practitioners. Technical Communication focuses on both quantitative and qualitative research while showcasing the work of some of the field's most noteworthy writers. Technical Communication is published quarterly.

Chapter Activities—Regularly scheduled chapter meetings allow technical communicators to exchange ideas with peers and participate in practical, job-related programs.

Access to STC's Job Database—STC's job database contains thousands of current job openings specifically geared toward the technical communication field.

STC Annual Conference—STC's annual conference is the largest conference in the world that focuses on the arts and sciences of technical communication. The conference includes more than 250 educational presentations. It offers opportunities for networking and a chance to view vendor exhibits and award-winning entries from STC's technical communication competitions.
