Creative Writing Association (CWA)
The Creative Writing Association, is a student organization that
exists to promote community and support among the creative writing students—both
undergraduate and graduate—within the English Department. We
have three primary activities:
- Every fall semester CWA hosts a series of open mic nights in the
coffee shops around Stillwater. These events are especially
geared to give undergraduate writers the chance to be heard,
but graduate students are also encouraged to attend and to read,
time allowing after the undergraduate readers have finished.
- Every spring semester CWA hosts the Graduate Student Reading Series,
evenings held in one of the on-campus auditoriums or reading rooms
in which graduate student creative writers read their work before
their friends, colleagues, and professors.
- Whenever possible, CWA sponsors readings by writers from outside
the student population. Last year we hosted or co-hosted readings
by Dagoberto Gilb, Ai, Susan Thames, and Bryan Dietrich.
