Laurie Thomas is a writer and filmmaker with roots in Miami, Kingston, New York, and the SF Bay Area. Her work explores themes of racial and gender violence, home and displacement. Thomas’ short films have screened at film festivals internationally and her short documentary “Black Girl Magic” was nominated for a 2017 National Magazine Award. Thomas has been awarded fellowships from the MacDowell Colony among others, holds an MFA in Film from Columbia University, and is working on a feature screenplay and a collection of short stories during the fellowship.
