The Margaret F. Nelson Scholarship

Any undergraduate English major who has not been enrolled at any time during the previous five years at any institution of higher education but is enrolled at OSU for the fall 2008 semester may apply for this scholarship.   The scholarship, in the amount of $100.00, is made possible by an endowment established from a faculty gift and book sale.  

Selection of scholarship winners will be based on the following criteria:

1. A brief biographical essay (200-500 words) detailing the reasons for returning for a degree, the family responsibilities, and the financial need.
2. Preference will be given first to a returning female undergraduate English major with dependent children, second to a returning female undergraduate English major, third to a returning male undergraduate English major with dependent children, and finally to a returning male undergraduate English major.  

Essays should be submitted to JuDean Scott in 205 Morrill Hall.  All submissions should include the scholarship name, applicant's name, address, phone number and CWID typed on a separate sheet of paper. Deadline for receipt of entries is 5:00pm on Friday, December 5th, 2008. Applications will be processed by the Departmental Scholarship Committee.   Announcement of the winner will be posted in January.
