English Graduate Student Association ScholarshipsEGSA will be awarding scholarships annually as funds permit, in the following categories listed below. The purpose of the awards is to encourage graduate students in the English Department to participate in activities that will aid them in their professional development. All submissions should include the applicant's name, address, phone number, and CWID typed on a separate sheet of paper. Please put the required material into an envelope with the name of the award on the outside. Place envelopes in JuDean Scott's mailbox in 205 Morrill Hall. See the main English Department Scholarship page for application deadlines. Break Out Awards:Given to graduate students in the English Department who are making their first steps in their professional development. First Conference- Given for attending your first professional conference in your field of study. Submit your name, the name of the conference, and the dates of the conference. Please give us whatever documentation you can. (i.e. a copy of the conference program if you've already attended, a copy of the conference registration form if you're going to attend later this year, or a copy of the conference announcement if they haven't opened registration yet.) ($25) First Presentation Submission- Given for submitting your first conference proposal in your field of study. Submit your name, the name of the conference, the session to which you submitted, and a copy of your proposal or abstract. ($25) First CV- Given for creating your first Curriculum Vita. Submit a copy of your CV. (It doesn't have to be long and impressive, it just has to be in a professional format). ($25) First Publication Submission- Given for submitting an article, book review or creative work to a professional publication in your area of study. Submit a copy of the cover letter that accompanied your submission. ($25) __________________________________________ NEED HELP? Submit a copy of your acceptance letter. (Make sure your name, the name of the work, and the name of the journal appears on the copy.) ($100) First Conference Presentation- Given for a first presentation at a conference in your area of study. (May be either a regional or national conference.) Submit a copy of your acceptance letter. (Make sure your name, the name of the presentation, and the name of the conference appears on the copy.) ($100) Service Scholarship- Given for service to the department or university. Many of you work hard in various roles that are hard to categorize. EGSA would like to honor your work in areas such as: writing recommendations for faculty awards or peers, serving on a hiring committee, etc. Any service that you do for the department or university for which you are not remunerated will be considered. Submit a description of the service, your name, and the dates of the service. ($100) ______________________________ Selection process for the scholarships: A selection committee of EGSA members will select all the submissions that meet the criteria for the award. (i.e. They must be serious submissions.) Then the members in conjunction with the EGSA faculty sponsor, Dr. Lindsey Smith, will randomly select as many winners from each category as there is funding. (Except for the Service Scholarship, which will be selected by the committee in conjunction with Dr. Smith.)
