Audre Chapman Scholarship
for Excellence in Teaching and Curriculum Development
Four scholarships of $100 each: one
for teaching excellence in each discipline: Composition, Technical Writing,
and ESL Composition, and a fourth for excellence
in teaching and outstanding contribution to curriculum development in
composition. These scholarships are open to any English graduate
teaching assistant or associate.
The application materials listed below should be placed in JuDean Scott's mailbox in 205 Morrill Hall. See the main English Department Scholarship page for application deadlines.
- A 1-2 page statement of teaching
philosophy
- A 1-2 page teaching CV including
specific examples of excellence and innovation in the classroom and
contributions to the program
- A sample syllabus
- Two examples of assignments or class
activities
- Letter of support from another instructor
who has visited at least one class section
- One complete set
of student evaluations
- On a separate sheet of paper, type the applicant's name, address, phone number and CWID.
Composition students should submit one application
for both the composition scholarships.
Scholarship recipients
in both categories will be selected from one pool. Judges for
these scholarships will be the Directors of Composition, Technical Writing,
and TESL Composition; the Associate Director of Composition; and the
EGSA president (unless he/she is competing for the award, in which case
the vice-president or another graduate student will be appointed by the
head of the department).
