Professor Ai Ogawa accepts year-long appointment to Mitte Chair (09-10-01)

Ai, the National Book Award-winning poet and OSU Professor of Creative
Writing, has accepted a year-long appointment to the Mitte Chair in Creative
Writing at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. Tim O'Brien, the
American novelist, is the permanent holder of the Mitte chair. While in San
Marcos, Ai will, in fall 2002, teach one MFA workshop, give a reading of her
poetry, and visit classes to discuss her work. In the Spring semester, she
will be free to write much of the time and will not teach any regular classes;
instead she will visit a number of classes and give three lectures on topics
of her choosing. Ai will return to OSU for the fall 2003 semester.
