OSU's PhDs Continue Professional Collaboration (05-31-99)Randy Phyllis (1992) and Al Learst (199* ) were both graduate students in the PhD program specializing in creative writing and literature; both interned with OSU's nationally-distributed literary journal, The Cimarron Review. Now both work together teaching American literature and creative writing at Mesa State University in southern Colorado. As Associate Professor of English and in his second year as Chair of the English Department, Randy received Mesa's 1997 Outstanding Faculty Scholar Award. He has recently published a series of poems with The Maverick Press and placed poems in a wide variety of creative writing journals. Additionally, he serves as editor for The Frank Cat Press and poetry editor for National Forum. Al Learst is the resident fiction writer at Mesa, teaching not only the fiction workshop, but courses in non-fiction prose and advanced writing. Together, they have launched the journal, Pinyon Poetry, now in its year of publication. English Department |
