ENGL 5120.831 CID# 13969 ( Tulsa) Computer Applications in ESL Research/Sheorey TTh 4:30-10:00pm 221T-NCB This course will introduce students to the many ways the personal computer can be used in conducting research in applied linguistics and second language learning/teaching. A major part of the course will concern the learning [step-by-step] how to use SPSS for data analysis. Little lecture; mostly hands-on work in a computer lab.

ENGL 5480.231 CID#13885 The Genders of Modernism/Walkiewicz MTWTh 12-2:30pm 310M. Who described creativity as a “spermatozoic act of the brain”? To whom was W. C. Williams responding in “The Great Sex Spiral”? Which poet wrote: “Pig Cupid / His rosy snout / Rooting erotic garbage”? Discover the answers to these and other questions as we examine modernist constructions of masculinity and femininity. Although that will be our main focus, the course should provide students with an overview of the various “modernisms” described by literary historians. Primary texts will include poetry, fiction, and prose by Djuna Barnes, T. S. Eliot, H. D., Ernest Hemingway, Mina Loy, Gertrude Stein, William Carlos Williams, and others.

ENGL 6420.841 CID#14117 ( Tulsa) Simulation and Gaming/Halleck TTh 4:30-10:00pm 221 T-NCB. In this course we will discuss the principles of simulation and gaming and explore the relationship between simulation/gaming and language learning. We will use simulation/gaming techniques to create a semester-long curriculum and will prepare one publishable article.
