Graduate Studies in English

The English graduate program at OSU serves students with diverse interests. Our curriculum supports intensive study in Literature, Creative Writing, Technical Writing, Screen Studies, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), Linguistics, and Composition & Rhetoric. But it also allows students to combine areas according to their own professional goals. The heart of our program is its faculty, who are not only nationally recognized scholars and writers but also committed teachers and mentors.

OSU grants on average 20 Masters and Doctoral degrees in English each year. Graduates of the Technical Writing program find ready employment in industry, and TESL graduates teach in bilingual classrooms both in the United States and abroad. Other MA's teach or enter Doctoral programs. Despite an uncertain job market for humanities professors, our PhD's find themselves well-prepared to meet the demands of a changing academic marketplace. Recent graduates teach at colleges and universities throughout the country. The supportive faculty and flexible curriculum make the English Department at OSU an attractive environment for graduate study.
