On Monday, March 10 at 7:30 PM, exciterbulb will screen Viy, or “Spirit of Evil” (Georgi Kropachyov and Konstantin Yershov, 1967, Soviet Union).  The film will be introduced by Oleksiy Babych, visiting Fulbright scholar in Screen Studies at OSU.

Based on a story by Nikolai Gogol, this is a major release that horror fans should be sure to check out for its stylistic flourishes and its audacious climactic scene. [. . .] Directors Georgi Kropachyov and Konstantin Yershov use the camera is startling ways that foretell the hyper-kinetic camerawork of Hong Kong cinema– James Newman, Images Journal

All screenings are held in the Noble Research Center auditorium and are free and open to the public.  A discussion will follow the film.

Exciterbulb is sponsored by the OSU Screen Studies Program.  Screenings include an eclectic array of international, classic, and independent films.  This semester’s theme is Monsters.  For information on other upcoming screenings, please visit: www.english.okstate.edu/home/calendar/
